Reflecting on DOTCOM, Phase 2
1. What proved the most challenging part of our July Phase 2 DOTCOM experience for you?
The most challenging part of our July experience was the first day, because I knew that all DOTCOMers will stay at Huntsman’s house except me and three DOTCOMers. I wanted to stay with my friends and it was a little bit hard to leave that house, but then I understood that it was very interesting to be with Emily and my host family. It was so funny to play with little David. Now I miss that days and want to see them again.
2. What proved the most rewarding part of our July Phase 2 DOTCOM experience for you?
The most rewarding part was the film night. We were so excited cause after the long discussions we finally finished our work and that day we showed a result and got applauses and congratulations for our hard work!!!
3. What proved the most fun part of our July Phase 2 DOTCOM experience for you?
I can’t forget the day of canoe. Marine, Sona and me were aboard and suddenly our canoe turned round in the middle of lake. We fell down in water. Marine couldn’t swim and started to shout. Her jeans, T-shirt, jacket were all wet. Finally we got out of water and started to laugh. It was so funny that I will never forget.
4. What are you most excited about, looking forward to our online Phase 3 DOTCOM experience coming up this fall?
Now I’m sure that we can make a lot of new films sharing a lot of different problems in the world. I don’t know we will see each other after March or not but I’m sure that we always will stay friends and will always remember these days.

My Top Three Reel Action Themes
1. Gender issues
This is a very interesting theme because the reason of many problems is distinction of gender. I think the rights of man and women must be the same. Men think that women can’t understand or do everything they can but I think this is only a stereotype. Of course men and women are different and think different ways, but in any case they must be equal in their rights. This is a great theme for discussion.
2. Peace/war/conflict
The goal of the world is peace and we all try to do everything for peace of our country. We are all ready to give everything for our peace. But every person has her/his imagination and understanding of peace… People have different opinion about same things and they have dofferent values... And here is where conflict and war come from. It is not easy to get peace without conflicts. We need to know how to solve conflicts!!!
3. Media
Media is an important thing for all of us. The connection of countries, people and all over the world is media. We use it every day in every step. There are many types of media: television, radio, newspapers, magazines, internet etc. I’d like to make short film about this theme because media plays an important role in our life.

Module #7
First of all I want to say that this program is really very interesting. I found new surroundings, new friends, learned a lot about media, contacted with foreigners, had opportunity to meet professionals in media sphere and ask them questions.
1. I think the most exciting part of DOTCOM phase 1 was module #5 (Techniques of Persuasion). I did it with great pleasure. It was about things we see/use every day. It was very interesting and very useful for our future.
2. The most challenging part of DOTCOM phase 1 was searching videos. It took me hours to find videos I would like most.
3. During these few months AM participants met for several times. We communicated also online and became good friends. I would be happy if foreign participants could be more active in their responses to our comments and questions. I believe that DOTCOM participants of all three countries could be closer and could achieve more, if online communication is more active.
This little boy is my nephew. He loves this cartoon very much and every time dances while watching it. This time he could hardly watch it. I LIKE this video.

Competition of posters
Few days ago a competition of posters has been announced in our school. The theme of the posters was famous singer Charles Aznavour. We had few days to prepare our poster. We found notes of his songs, his photos and biography in Internet. First we painted notes with tea bags, then added drops of iodine and then burnt a little to give an old impression to those pages. We made CDs with his photos etc. AND WE WON!!! We took the FIRST place!

Module #5
This video influences our Limbic and Neocortex brains. Limbic – because it is a pleasure for us to see all these famous people in the video. And Neocortex – because we listen to the message of the actors, think about their “advice” and then we read the web site addresses (and will probably register).
BANDWAGON – There are lots of people involved in the video and in the end they all say that they will vote. It makes us want to be in the group and it persuades us to vote.
RHETORICAL QUESTIONS – The main question of the commercial is like “Do you care about our future?” It makes us to think about the answer, which brings to the result that we need to vote.
FEAR – When we watch this video we understand that if we do not vote it will NEGATIVELY influence our future: education, economy etc. and it makes us feel the fear and vote.
TESTIMONIAL - All “participants” of the video are famous and respected people and of course we will trust them and will be sure that voting is important.
DENIAL – Even the name of this video is “Do NOT vote”, though its aim is to make people vote. While saying “don’t vote” they manage to explain that it is better to vote.
HUMOR – This video is not funny, but it has humor, especially in the last few seconds.

We must help them!!!
Some days ago, when we went home from school we saw a man who tried to find something in the trash. It was very regrettable view, but we didn’t know how to help him. Then we went to him and asked some questions. He said that he has a family: wife and two adult children. He said that nobody works besides him, but when we asked why, he answered that they can’t find a job but they want it very much.While we were talking to him some of his neighbors offered him to clean the yard for money - just 100 AMD (about 0.3 USD). People were behaving with him with contempt.

What I want to say is that I think if a person really needs and wants to work he/she will find any job for sure. We MUST help them!!! What can we do to for it??? If you have any ideas and suggestions leave a comment please.

Skiing
I like extreme very much!!! For me skiing is sport, extreme, hobby and fun!!! My father taught me to ski, when I was over ten years old. Every winter I go to Tsakhkadzor (in Armenia) with my family, but this year we went to Austria to ski. It was very interesting travel for all of us!!! Nature in Austria is very beautiful. There were three lines for skiing: blue-which was easy, red-which was not so easy but not so hard too and black-which was very sloping and very hard!!! My mother started to ski this year and she always went by the blue line. My father skis very well that’s why he could choose the line he wants. And what about me: I ski well and I always went by the red line, but one day I asked my father to take me to the black line. It was so fun, you can’t imagine:)But I can’t say that it was easy for me, it was really very hard and even I thought that I would not reach the end. After skiing we were always very tired and very hungry :)
There I wanted to learn how to ski "sitting", but every time I fell down. This is a video, where I managed to ski "sitting" without falling down.Here I passed between my father’s legs.

Module #3
Our brains on media
Our brains has three parts: Reptilian, Limbic and Neocortex.
The first video is influencing our Limbic Brain, because during this video we see many different colourful images: rainbow, clowns, animals, flowers, balloons etc. and hear a music which gives us a lot of positive emotions. Than we read the massage and understand. So it is influencing our Neocortex Brain.
I like this video:)

Module #2
1. BOOKS
Though media is very developed in our century, books are still one of the most important information sources. Each country has its own history, which usually passes to generations through books. Though today many families have computer and Internet at home, and many of them read lots of newspapers and magazines, anyway for school education people use books for each subject. Students can use different information sources for additional education, but still book is the base.
In Armenia there is a place, where all Armenian old books are kept as treasures. The place is called Matenadaran and it usually has lots of tourist visitors.
I also like to read books, though I don’t have much time for it. I like to read books in Armenian and English. Though I prefer detectives, my favorite book is “Ogyust Roden”, which is about a little boy, who became a world-famous sculptor in spite of his poor and difficult life.
2. NEWSPAPERS / MAGAZINES
Nowadays magazines and journals are more preferred by most of youth. I also like to read journals, but unfortunately I can’t find one, which includes everything I need. Today I read “Yes”, “Glamour”, “Cosmopolitan” etc. In the photo you can see my collection of “Yes”.
3. MUSIC
For me music is on the first place. I LOVE music!!! I love to listen to music, to play myself and sing. As I’ve already mentioned in my previous posts, two years I sang in a choir Armenian little singers. I sang with many famous singers and gave many concerts in different cities of Armenia. Here is a photo from one of my concerts.
Seven years I played classical music on the piano. Then I graduated from the music school and started to play JAZZ. I already had few concerts with saxophone. Here is a video of me playing jazz at home :) Though the file is big, I hope you will like it :)
I think that music is a very POWERFUL thing, which can unite different races, nations and countries. Though we have our Armenian world-famous composers, like A. Babajanyan and A. Khachatryan, and lots of world-famous singers, like Charles Aznavour, we also listen to masterpieces of foreign composers and singers. My favorite foreign musicians are Ray Charles, Norah Jones, James Brown etc. I also very much like to listen to Aziza Mustafah Zadeh, who is a famous jazz-woman from Azerbaijan. Here is a video of Aziza, playing “It Ain’t Necessarily So” of genius Gershwin.
4. TELEVISION
TV plays an important role in our life. As we know, people usually remember better if they see something rather than they listen. Therefore, TV is a powerful tool. Unfortunately today we cannot trust news programs, because they are not the same on different channels. You can get different versions of the same information on different channels and programs. I don’t spend much time on watching TV. For me it is usually a way to spend my time with my family in the evenings… we like to watch interesting programs on Discovery channel. We also like to watch different movies.
5. VIDEO GAMES
To be honest, I don’t like to play video games. If I have some free time I prefer to spend it for something else.
6. COMPUTERS
For our family computer is not just an entertainment. Each member in our family has his/her own computer, which is used mostly for the work. As I`m not working yet, I use computer to prepare for my school. I use different programs and tools. In most cases, of course, I need Internet.
7. INTERNET
Internet is one of the latest useful and important discoveries. It is the biggest source of information today, which is available for everyone, everywhere and always. Internet is used for everything: work, education, entertainment etc. For example, Internet is the core of the DOTCOM program, which is able to gather about 90 students from different parts of the world, give them opportunity to communicate and educate them. I spend much time in Internet, almost for everything. Usually I look there for lyrics, for information about writers or something else. I also use Internet to find notes to play on piano. Internet is also a great tool for communication. I use e-mail and chat programs to communicate with my friends and relatives, who are in Armenia or abroad.

In exhibition
The announcement of photo exhibition "Poisoning" interested all DOTCOM Am participants. We divided into groups to visit the exhibition. Our group visited the place today. We saw many photos of our nature, lakes, rivers. The guide told us about the meaning of the photos, about the problems of our country. So we understand that we have many problems which concern to each of us.
And what about our group?! We met each other for the second time. Our group has very happy and interesting participants. Each of us has her/his opinion and viewpoint of different questions. I'm sure it will be very interesting to work together!!!

They were two guests from the UK with us and we climbed with them to AMBERD. They liked AMBERD very much...

2. Media plays important part of our life. I think it will be hardly to live without TV, music, radio, newspapers or internet . My favorite films are A walk to remember and Step forward . There are very different films but each of them has its interests. My favorite magazine is YES! which is about everything I want to know. About music I can say that I listen very different styles of music. It’s depend on myy mood. For example: Evanesces, James Brown, Pink or Mandy Moor:)
My home community
3.Today we have many problems connected with our streets and schools. Street trading, little booths, shops and cafes narrow our streets and make them unpleasant. They become very uncomfortable to walk!!! I don’t want to complain about our country because I like my homeland very much, but I think that problems must be solved and I am ready to do everything for it!!!

4.I like to work in group, to communicate and meet new people!!! I think during this program I will contact with American and Azerbaijani teenagers and I will speak English better. I will make new friends and we can contribute each other with our ideas.

About me
1. Hello:) My name is Nare Zakaryan. I was born in Moscow but I live in Yerevan. Now I'm on the 10th grade. Most of all I like to study English, physics and economics. I have been in Germany, in Turkey, in Georgia, in Austria and in Russia. I would like to be in Africa, in USA and in Spain (Barcelona).
Now I would like to speak about my hobby which is music. Two years I sang in a choir Armenian little singers. I sang with many famous singers and gave many concerts in different cities of Armenia. Seven years I play classical music on the piano. Then I graduated music school and started to play JAZZ music. Now I play on the piano with saxophone and sing. I’m going to play with guitar.
I’m also a member of a guiding association and every year I participate in our national guiding/scouting camp . So there are a lot of things that I can tell you.
Now I’m excited with this new DOTCOM program and I hope to make many new friends:)
